I’ve always enjoyed the times I’ve spent in Waupaca; tubing and skiing on the beautiful Chain O’ Lakes, swimming at Whispering Pines, and just relaxing at Brainard’s Bridge Park. I grew up there, saw many different faces every summer as the tourists began filling the cottages, and even though I’ve since moved away, I bring my children back every year to experience the joys I had when I was younger.
One memory of Waupaca was learning to ski on the Chain O’ Lakes, waving to the Chief Waupaca as it paddled its way through Rainbow Lake, as if I were a star. Those times we spent out on the boat were among all of my favorites. We would take the boat through all of the lakes, past the Indian Crossing Casino and then back to Rainbow Lake where we would tie off at Government Island and swim in the beautiful bluish green waters. After an hour or so of swimming we would hook up the Super tube or the Ski board and take off around the lake hoping not to wipe out in Sturgeon City! The waters of the Chain O’ Lakes are so clear that you can see those monstrous fish swimming underneath you; I would flip over on my back and keep my feet from dangling in the water until the boat came back around to rescue me. Such fun times I feel as though everyone should experience at some point in their lives!!
