Water Activities

Waupaca’s chain of 22 connected lakes, the “Chain O’ Lakes,” is the centerpiece of this popular community. Swimming, boating, water-skiing, canoeing, sailboarding and fishing are all popular activities on the Chain’s 728 acres. So are ice skating and ice fishing. Other popular spots include the Crystal and Waupaca Rivers, Shadow, Spencer and Stratton Lakes.

There are public boat landings on the Chain and on Shadow Lake. Boats can be rented from Becker Marine, (715) 258-9015; Taylor Lake Marine, (715) 258-8840 and  Ding’s Dock, (715) 258-2612.  Public beaches are located at South Park and Hartman Creek State Park.

The public beach features a raft, diving board, slides and on-site lifeguards.  Be sure to listen for the ice cream truck music as it stops regularly at South Park.

Entrance to this state park requires an entrance fee.  The sandy beach is 300 feet long.  The area has picnic areas and some shade.  Pets are prohibited on the beach, but can remain in specified areas.

Ski only on Rainbow, Round, Columbia and Long.
Boat pulling a skier must have a qualified observer in addition to the operator.
Ski in counter clockwise direction.
Do not ski within 100 feet of swimmers, rafts, piers and anchored boats.
Towing any recreational device at any speed is considered skiing.

Kayak Adventures provides self-guided paddling trips down the Waupaca River.  It is roughly a 7.5-mile trip on a beautiful stretch of the river that has an abundance of wildlife including ducks, geese, sand hill cranes, songbirds, deer and various other water animals.   A majority of the trip is easy paddling; however, several spots contain moderately challenging white water.  It is an all-inclusive paddling trip providing kayaks, paddles, life jackets and transportation to and from the river.
